I have a simple question. I have a 1991 Explorer, can I replace my stock 95 amp alternator with a 130 amp off of a later model?

Sure can. There are a few parts that Ford did all the same from the Ranger to the F350s. Just make sure the pulley is the same from your stocker.

Thanks for the fast reply. My alternator has been going in and out and I was having to tap it with a wrench to get it to charge. I am in a position now to do someupgrades so I wanted to start with a larger alt. You mentioned that there are parts that stay the same on a lot of the fords. Where would I go to find out what is compatible with my 1991? Is there a website or something?

I'm not 100% on all the parts so I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction. Getting to know the local Ford parts dealer is a good way to find out these little tricks. I know the P/S pumps, steering box, and rear end parts are common on many Fords. The alternator shop that custom made my alternator told me about the Ford charging systems being the same but I don't remember which rigs had the largest amps. I just asked him to build me a 200 amp as I didn't have time to look around or order one (daily driver at the time with dead alt).

Bionicsasquatch, The CarQuest right outside of the front gate on Parker street (ask for Terry) is an awsome place to get any part, (military discount) they ordered me an 130 amp alt for my truck, $90 direct bolt up.
