Am I Nuts?

I didn't see a 4WD switch on the dash, and it is a southern truck.

"Add an attachment (click paperclip above when you post), upload photos, then click the paperclip again and the drop down will say "manage attachments". Click on that and it will embed the photos in your post."

Going back to click on the attachment icon the second time confused me for a while.

Yea your right its 2wd, its hard to see on my phone sometimes, anyway it looks pretty good, maybe get the guy into fixing it up turn him into one of us

You're a great guy, koda - that is a hell of a nice ride. Hope they both appreciate it.

Have an off the wall question for you - who did the stone wall work in the background of a couple of the pictures? I need some done and you're not that far from me. Thanks!!

I hope they do too, but sometimes I wonder if I just get taken advantage of (Bank of Dad).

talking about "off the wall"... it's a stone veneer (I guess that's what you'd call it). I believe the previous owner did it. after 10 years it's now all falling off. I believe the problem was that he didn't wet the cement blocks before attaching the stones. if you don't do this first, the cement block draws all the moister out of the attaching cement/grout and you don't get a good bond. I find examples of his "craftsmanship" all over my house. his plumbing skills are particularly noteworthy. I don't claim to know how to do everything, but I know a little bit about most things.

Yes, it's 2WD and that's what I prefer for Georgia driving. if we're ever off-road it wasn't done intentionally.

I hope he takes pride and an interest in his new ride, but I'm not holding my breath based on the way he thinks (or should I say, fails to think). I'm willing to supervise/instruct/help him work on it, but I'm done doing it for him. if I don't remind him to check his oil, or tire pressure, it would never dawn on him.

well, I did a little checking underneath today. this thing is a dry as a bone underneath. engine, trans, diff, rad, no signs of any kind of fluid leaks. fairly amazing for a 16 year old vehicle with 200k + on it (even if the engine was rebuilt recently). It looks like the trans was rebuilt too because it has a red "Warranty Void If" sticker on the trans pan. the only things I saw needing attention are broken front sway bar end-links (typical) and rotted ball joint boots (also typical). this weekend we'll check for ball joints/tie rod end play, pull the wheels to check the brakes, which were supposedly replaced last year (it could be true, the parking brake actually works). then we'll start by changing oil and filters.

oh, and we gotta straighten that front bumper, it's driving me crazy!

That's a nice looking rig for the money. I wish they were that clean here.

I'm looking for one for my son and would probably get one with the SOHC if the price were right. I haven't seen a decent one for sale around here in months it seems. I'm about to start checking CL in nearby states that don't use salt.

there's quite a few in the ATL area. I'm always looking for V8's, so I usually don't pay the Sports much mind. this one just caught my eye, maybe it was the color... but from what I can tell so far, I think I found a good one, especially for the price. I just gotta resist the urge to "restore" it. it just needs to be mechanically sound to be reliable transportation, but it's hard for me to not go too far (my OCD kicks in and I have too much time on my hands these days).

does anyone know what Ford called this color green? I want to paint the pink driver's door handle.

aaahhh, I just retrieved the door keypad code. PO only remembered the last two digits. BTW the RAP module is in the back, near the tie jack, on the Sport too. I was thinking it was behind the p/s air bag, but I guess that's just on the Sport Trac.

i would have jumped all over that

I almost hate to give it to the bum....

From what I hear you have two choices,

A). Tell him the $1400 loan is to be repaid piece by piece when he can, upon receiving payment either keep cash or give straight to daughter. (**** ain't free right?)

B). Have him standing with you and the hood up, turn on the ignition so the Engine is Running, Disconnect two Spark Plug Cables from the plugs and ask him to hold the cables for you (do it quick). If he is dumb enough to do it maybe you should just give it to him. :D

Just Google the code on the p/s door sticker. Mine is ZY . oxford white.. There is a couple sites that will tell you the color based off of year make and color code

SH would be the code for this one

I like choice "B" but I've already told him he is to give me a minimum of $100 a month toward the truck. the title will be going in my daughter's name. I already make the two of then give me $100 a week for rent, because they're both working and, like you said, "**** ain't free". if he falls short on a truck payment i'll take the $100 out of their rent money. it's not like I need their money, it's just the principle of the thing. they already owe me $20k, or so, I'll never see. he thinks there's a chance they may make him a supervisor at his job. that would be great, but we'll see. he's had high hopes in the past that never panned out. mind you, this is not a teenager we're talking about, he just turned 36.

thanks for the paint code info.

Thanks for the response on the stone; sounds like the quality wasn't there from your home's PO. Like you, I can do a few things well, but know a little about a lot of things around the house. I'm great w electrical and plumbing; awful at carpentry.

When I needed paint for my EB, I used this website - automotivetouchup.com. Best I remember, they had a lookup table using the paint code off the label. Body and trim paint I got both matched perfectly.

well today I fixed the crooked front bumper. I removed the plastic piece from underneath and used 2 floor jacks and a couple of pieces if 2x4. the driver's side is now spot-on and the passenger side is about 95% level. good enough.

I also removed the driver door interior trim panel to re-glue the armrest cover and found out why the light in the door reflector wasn't working, it was hanging inside the door - still working. re-glued the cover to the arm rest base and wrapped it with electrical tape to hold it down until the glue dried. it turned out pretty good, considering it was 90% detached.

I bought some Mobil 1 and a Motorcraft oil filter while i was doing the shopping at Wally World today. I'll take care of that tomorrow and then it's up to my daughter to get it insured and registered on Friday. other than some brake and front suspension checks on Sunday, I've told them it's ready to start using on Monday. just in time for higher gas prices. ever notice that when the price of gas goes down it does it 1 cent at a time, but when it goes up it jumps 10-12 cents overnight?

If there was an ExplorerForum Dad of the Year contest, you'd be at the top of the list.

Kudos!
