Just curious if anyone has run into this before. It must be some kind of ground or filter issue.

When I have my X off, and the key inthe AUX position, the AM is crystal clean. FM and CASS are as well. As soon as you turn the key to the "RUN" position it get a horrible static. I get this with the engine on or off, and when it's on revving the engine does not seem to effect it. FM and CASS are clean in this position, only AM is effected.

Any suggestions?

The head unit is stock and looks like this:

Maybe a ground loop problem?

I was thinking someting l ike that, but wouldn't you hear the same thing in FM and CASS if it was a ground loop?

Maybe, but it could just be radio interference on the AM bandwidth.

Could be the fuel pump. There were some issues a while back with the fuel pumps making noise on the CB and HF Ham bands. If I remember right, the fix involved some sort of ferrite setup on the fuel pump. I'll see if I can find it for you.

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48433

Thanks. Since I'm not having problems with a HAM, I am going to try the Ford kit for starters......Thanks for the info!

Had the same problem in my Ranger. Fixed it by unpluggung and plugging back in the antenna from the rear of the radio.
