Im planning on making the most of the limited space in the X, so when the top comes off tool boxes are going in. One side will have a large box for straps and spare shafts and stuff, on the other side im putting in a rack that will hold .50 cal ammo cans. Im just trying to come up with a good way to hold them in place, and im decided with either a clamp that locks into placeover top of the box or using something like a vice to clamp them in from the side.

I have seen it done in a cj-7 with an odd system I didnt like, and it was to hard to remove them. I want something I can pop in and out for easy trail repairs.

ANy ideas?

How about a frame for the bottom made out that angle iron stuff? Then maybe weld some sort of piece on the side of the box so that a mechanism mounted to the frame can clip on to......maybe?, i dont know.....i tried :)

The system that is used in the HMMWV is quite simple. Make a angle iron base the Desert Rat was saying and use small ratchet straps or cam buckle straps to secure it down to the angle iron base.
