I currently have a alpine flex 4 (30rms x 4 ) for my speakers and a JL e1200 (120rms x 1). The main power lead is 8 gauge and then it splits off at the distribution. I was only going to use this set up at the time and decided that it would work fine.

However, over the weekend I got a new sub and now looking to upgrade the amp. I am thinking of going with the alpine MRP-M500. I believe its 300rms x 1. Is this an okay amp? I am kind trying to stay under 200 dollers for an amp.

Will I need to up the main power lead to a larger gauge? I am going to switch it over at some point anyway, but can I get away with the 8 for now. I am keep the current fuse and figure I will be fine as long as I don't blow that.

The main lead is rated for 450rms, what I am looking to do is going to bring me to 420, and I really don't like trusting what the box says.

8 gauge is safe for 60-80 amps depending on length....I would go ahead and upgrade to atleast 4 gauge wire...less resistance...less voltage drop...better for your equipment too.

I upgrade the power lead from 8 to 4. I went with a JL G1700 for the sub. Kind of pricey but I have never found a JL I have not liked....make JL amp. The lower end subs I really don't care for, just junk that has the JL name.
