Shouldn't matter, 0 guage is best though, depends on what wattage amp you're running. I believe mine's 8 guage, I've got 2 sets, 1 for each amp. The brand doesn't really matter but go to Car Toys or somewhere like that and buy one of those kits that have the fuse blocks and all the wiring needed. I bought my sets off eBay for $25 each, shipping included. Car Toys and Circuit City, places like that, usually also have wire that you can buy by the length, if you prefer to buy only what you need.

I do plan to buy a kit but was wondering at my local audio shop they have two kits exactly the same guage, length ect but one is made by rockford fosgate and one is made by street wires and the rockford is like 20 bucks more are you just paying for the name or is there a difference in sound quality or safety???

As far as power wires go, you can go ahead with the cheapies. But when it comes to the RCA cables, I would get the best one I could possibly afford. This is where you can get a lot of noise, etc. Dont waste your time on cheapie RCAs, you will kick yourself later. Good Luck!

4 gauge should be more than enough for most cases. I'd get the power wiring in one kit and the RCAs seperate rather than a full bundle of everything.

My opinion www.tsunamionline.com makes the best RCAs and wiring. They're a sub. of Metra (who makes dash kits and harnesses we all use). The cool ones are the thin 4 channels one wire from amp to deck

Theres also a 9 wire bundle in one wire ideal for line level inputs if you're using a stock deck (8 wires for speaker one for amp on power).

i have a 4 gauge lightning audio(rockford fostgate) kit in my exp.... gauge to the distribution block then 8 gauge to the amp and 8 gauge ground.... with a 60amp fuse under the hood and a 30 amp fuse in the distribution block... and i still dim the lights and bring the voltage gauge to 8 volts when i have it cranked and its hits hard and low........ but 4 gauge is the best all around.... i need a 1 farad cap and 4 gauge to the amp and 4 gauge ground and i will be great......

HEath,
What deal did you get?

Thats the same kit I'm using in my truck... I also bought a bunch of other wire too though... They gave me a good deal on the extras that I bought too... So far its working great for me, no complaints here...

how much are u gonna be running?.l'll tell u waht size wire to get dont go to car toys and ask them thell tell u to just get a 4 guage amp kit..........no matter what they tried to get me to get 4 guage for a 1500 watt hook up

Did you get the kit for a cheaper deal?

Well u convinced me it was a good deal. After thinking it through. Even if i got the $20 walmart kit. I still would have to buy audio cables and power distribution blocks and speaker wire which would cost more than the extreme works package.

yes it would look how much my kit cost me

2 guage wire and ground($100)
140 amp circut breaker ($79)
2/1/0 stree wire's distro block ($99)

but that what happens when your in a rush and get your stuff from best buy and quality auto sound

Dang Geminidj2000, did you look around before you spent all that money on that stuff?? You could have paid maybe half of that and gotten 1/0awg wiring with a good pair rca's as well! If you're lookin for wiring packages or just wiring in general check out www.knukonceptz.com
They have extremely good wiring at extremely good prices! I would definately recommend them. I got 20ft of 4awg power and ground with 12 feet of shielded twisted speaker wire, spade and ring connections, 80amp fuse and anl fuse holder, and 16ft of remote wire for $35 bucks! Give them a try.

Complete answer for amp install

this is a simple subject. Under 1000 watts go for 8g, over go for 4g. make sure to run the RCA's and power cable from batt. on opp. sides of the truck. if you don't you could get an annoing high pitch sound from interior speakers that gets louder as you accelerate. and as someone already said, power and ground cables are fine for cheepo's but quality RCA's are what you need. Capasitors not only help with keeping the lights at constant power but also help to provide constant power to the amp for optimum performance.
