I have the K&N fipk on my 96 4.0. The opening of the filter is 6". Does any one know which Amsoil EAAU (or what ever those letters are) filter would fit my application. From what I can tell, the largest opening they offer is 4". But I'm prertty sure I'm not reading their application chart correctly.

thanx,

Is the "baseOD" the measurement I'm looking at? I'd think the "flange ID" would be what I should need to go off of. What size did you get? thanx again,

For the SOHC not yet, but soon I heard, about 2-3 months ago.

I scored mine at around the same time Al did. A filter with a flange diameter of 3.5" ID will work with most intake kits I assume. That's where you want to measure. That's the ID I have for the filter I got to work with the hardware now on my 5.0, but all pieces used to be on my SOHC.

I used model # EaAU3560 and Aldive used EaAU3570 (if I'm not mistaken). I think both would work in a LOT of 2nd gen Explorer applications. Mine is a Voltant intake, Al's is MAC.

I guess it won't work on mine then. The opening (I.D.)on my K&N and the and the flange mounted on my mass air sensor's O.D. are 6 inches. That is almost 2" bigger than the largest of the Amsoil filters. I need a new flange? How/where do I get one the right size?

No, there's a bracket (takes the place of the air box) that supports the end of the MAS up. That bracket is mounted at the bottom where the box used to be (from what I remember). The top of the bracket is sandwiched between the MAS and the K&N flange. The flange, and MAS are bolted together using 4 allen bolts. The flange O.D. is 6", much bigger than the MAS I.D.

You got it. I'll try and get some pics now, but its getting dark and been very dark here all day.

The bracket is behind the Flange, not between.

Gotcha. Definitely a different application than mine. I've always bolted up directly to the MAF or a bracket similar in diameter to the MAF with Volant and MAC.

Here's the Volant setup I had for my SOHC:

And slightly modified to fit my 5.0

In both cases the filter just hose clamps onto the C&L MAF body and the Volant box supports it. The standard Volant setup without C&L hooks up slightly different with a small adapter. OEM MAF clamps on one side, filter on the other.

Called Amsoil again today. Still no Inside Flange at 6", that is what it takes for the SOHC K&N replacement, but he said sometime in Sep there will be a new filter coming out, and it might be this one.

i like the one i got now, bought a filter off of ebay and it came with the adapter to mount directly to the MAF. will get some pics tomorrow of the whole setup......

The OHV setup has the same bracket. Awhile back, I checked Amsoil for a replacement filter for a K&N FIPK on my 4.0. No luck as far as a 6" ID opening. I went with AEM's DryFlow. No oil needed when cleaning.

Thanks, pabille.
