My story into my Explorer is a bit of an interesting one so hang tight for a hot minute.
I remember in the March of 2013 I came home from school one day, in the yard sat a Green 99 4runner SR5. I walked in and asked my old man about it.
"Who's ride is that out in the yard?"
"Well I guess it's yours"
So it began with my first car. I was a Junior at the time and didn't get my license until after I graduated. In the meantime we had a few miles of gravel rural roads I could drive it on with no fear of getting in trouble. I would take it to my friend's house and come back a few hours later. After High School I got my license so I could go to college and be able to drive myself to and from. Ended up with an hour drive to and back putting about 100 miles on it every weekday. That thing served me faithfully and loved it more than life itself because I might not of been able to count on people but I could always count on my ride. Never was too interested in domestics, I was mostly an import kind of guy.
Unfortunately it was not meant to last. I remember driving up to Telico to meet up with friends to go to the beach. All of a sudden, a Dodge Dakota pulls out into my lane. I attempt to swerve but it was too late. I clipped his front, front wheel goes out, and ended up rolling 4 times. The kid had a revoked license and no insurance, wasn't paying attention. I only ended up getting a bad cut on the back my head and was able to crawl out on my own.
This turned my pride and joy from this
Into this
Weeks passed, I healed up, and the insurance company threw me into a fancy Explorer 17 Limited rental. It was my first time driving domestic so I didn't really know what to expect. Took it easy but it fit like a glove soon enough. Car shopping was a bit of hassle. The only affordable 4runner was gone and everyone loves to inflate prices on garbage frames. My old man told me about a Ford Explorer for sale and I went and checked it out. The ride itself was pretty good, it was kept in a garage for most of it's life and was well maintained. Paint and the interior looked new, didn't have a whole lot of miles for a 97. Decided that since the rental was almost over that I'd buy it.
That's how I ended up with my 97 XLT Limited 4x4.
It rocks the 4.0 OHV V6 and I think it sounds pretty good. I remember driving up to my Dad's to show it to him and he likes it well enough as well. When I came back home I pulled into the driveway, night moves was on the radio, and I sat there and thought to myself "This ain't my 4runner, but it might do just as well".
I've had it for a few months and I love the thing. It's got it's share of issues here and there but I can always depend on it. I wouldn't have anything else. Now I'm sitting here with you fine folk, I look forward to posting here.
Forgive me, this will probably be the dumbest thing you will read today. Thank You for your time regardless.
