Hello all. This would be my first post, I've learned quite a bit so far and thank you for that.

My issue was/is I tried to start my 00 explorer sport and it just cranked and cranked. The battery is new, the starter should be fine along with the alternator. I stopped cranking and looked into the engine and poked around to see if i saw anything off. Just then as I was leaning in not touching anything I heard a sorta servo noise, like an actuator noise or something, I figured i would just try to start the explorer and just like that, it started.

Any ideas? thanks chaps.

Was the ignition key in the 'run' position when you heard the 'servo noise'? If so, I'd guess that you heard the fuel pump run and pressurize the system - thus the successful start when you tried cranking it again.

No, the key was on the seat, the time that had elapsed between the time I tried to start the engine, pull the key out and lay on the seat and then hear the noise was bout 15 minutes. I do think it could be the fuel pump, but why the delay i wonder.
