My 98 4.0l (6 cyl) SOHC, 130k, has developed a sound that really isn't a chirp, but more of a chug when accelerating. It gets louder when stepping on the gas then almost goes away at idle. It also seems to be at its loudest when colder.
My shade tree mechanic says it's the belt, which is two years old. I lubed all the pullies and dressed the belt, which he suggested, no change.
Any ideas?
Performance hasn't been affected by the noise. It's just annoying.
Thanks.
