i just bought a 1997 ford explorer xlt, and when im driving at speeds under 35 I hear this screeching noise coming from the car. I cant really hear it when Im going over 35. It only happens when Im accelerating or coasting, and not while im braking or stopped. The last owner had the belts and stuff replaced, before I bought it. I had it checked out by my mechanic before I bought it, and when he looked at it all he said was the brakes will probably need to be done in the near future. He however did not hear the screeching noise. Im just wondering if the brakes could cause this, or if it is something else.

Not saying this is the cause, but I used to have this same problem on an 86 F150. A rock would get between the dust shield and the brake rotor causing one hell of a noise. However, it would make noise at low speed also. Just something to look for.
