Another 4WD Question

I purchased a 94 Ranger XLT (4WD) a little while ago. It's nothing special, a little rough to say the least. I have been looking at the 4WD for a couple days now and have found that the wires going to the dash switch have power, but there is no power going from the switch to the transfer case motor. I have looked at the Sticky: 4X4 Shift Motor Rebuild, but it seems that it may not be the transfer case shift motor. so, that being said, would getting the switch be a good start? Or should I start looking else ware?
