Read through quite a few posts this morning and am generally wondering if my compressor on my '13 Limited is on its way out?
It's been underperforming lately, as well as blowing hot air intermittently. Now it blows cold air intermittently. Recently changed the cabin air filter (Twice, once to the fancy HEPA and then back to a cheap paper one so I could get some airflow). Other than a botched attempt at adding refrigerant to the system nothing else has been done. I say botched because I couldn't get a good reading on the cheap gauge and had a hard time screwing the cans onto the hose, so ended up venting most of the contents.
In addition to blowing hot it seems like the engine is bogging down pretty hard when the compressor kicks on, which it only does for a few seconds, and we get a buzzing whine while driving with the AC switched on, almost like a power steering pump. Not a screeching or grinding noise. Goes away when AC is off.
Bought a new jumbo can of ice cube juice last night and attached the hose to the service port and the needle went to the red 'Go to the stealership' section.
I figure either way I will have to crack the system open at this point, but thought I would come ask in case someone has experience that could save some headaches.
