I have a 2002 Explorer Limited and recently the alarm started going off randomly. I do not have the door ajar light or other symptoms besides the doors locking every now and then while the car is in gear. I read through the many threads but I'm not sure where to go next. I had previously fixed the power window wire in the drivers side door boot so I went there first and the ground wire looks ok.

I then tried to determine if it was the door ajar sensor by locking all the doors, setting the alarm and opening from the inside but both front doors set off the alarm. From what I've read that means the sensors are ok. I also sprayed all latches with WD40, front and rear doors and bottom and top liftgate. No dice.

Is there something I'm missing or should double check? I have a baby on the way in a month and I need to get this fixed, lol.

Just an update, I tried locking the doors with the FOB and hitting the unlock button once to just open the drivers side door. I then manually locked the door and the alarm has not gone off for over 24 hours. Apparently that disables the PATS or something? Anyway, for anyone that runs into this you can at least lock your doors.

Random alarm horn honking

I have the identical problem. I started out with an intermittent "door ajar" light and warning signal. I checked all of the door ajar switches and they are all good. I did find a broken black wire in the door junction tube at the driver's door but I fixed that. Now I get the alarm horn with the doors locked. It takes a few hours for it to sound the alarm. I will post if I find a solution.
