Another keypad question

Didn't want to hijack the other keypad question so I started this thread.
I have an '03 Explorer Sport XLT that I just bought used and w/o owners manual. I did recieve the FMC card with the keypad code and it does work.

Question is, how do I change the code and if I do change the code, will the original code open the door. Don't think the previous owner would come by and open up his old vehicle, but who knows who all knows the code...

If I forget the new code, can I reset it to the factory code w/o taking it to the stealership? and if so, how?

You can enter your own code. The factory code will always work no matter what.

If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

Seems like it would be a waste of time to change the code if the previous owner or anyone they gave the code to used the factory code to get in. Also I was reading about the coded keys... I only got one when I bought the truck (should have insisted on a second key as part of the deal, but never thought about it until just recently). It says I can code my own key but I have to have 2 coded keys to do it. I suppose the dealer would charge an arm and a leg to code one for me.

You're welcome. You could enter something that would be easy for you to remember. Get some quotes from local locksmiths. I believe they will charge less than the dealer. Once you get 2 working keys, buy another one and program it yourself and put it away. If you lose one of the keys, you can buy one and program it yourself and save some bucks.

Yep...but when buying your own key, make sure it is the correct PATS key. I ran into this problem. There IS a difference between the square and round as far as the black plastic part of the keys are concerned.
