hi. my 1997 x 4.0ohv is having the same rough idle, etc... everyone talks about on here, but it also misfires on the 1,2&4 cylinders. i have a loss of power up hills, and and rough running at speed (above 55) or below 2000rpm.
ive changed the maf, cleaned the iac, checked egr, replaced all plugs wires,and checked all vacuum lines. i bought it used 1 year ago, so dont know if manifold gaskets were fixed, but im going to change them this week, and i have not checked the fuel system yet(Ithis week also)

i am wondering if anyone has had the same problems, and if you guys might know what else this could be. also, where did you get the gaskets from?? and how much?

I'm kind of having the same problem with my 2000, get a can of WD-40 with the straw and spray in the vicinity of your intake manifold gaskets. If the engine speeds up or smooths out the gaskets are likely leaking. You can try tightening them and it might work for a while. Another symptom of leaking intakes is disappearing antifreeze from your overflow bottle. If this is happening, change them soon.

how doesw the dissapearing anti freeze signify a leak??

If your intake mainfold gaskets are leaking, and you find the engine runs better with the WD-40 test, antifreeze crosses through the intake manifold from one head to the other. If the gaskets are leaking air, they may be leaking antifreeze as well. That is why your are told to apply some RTV around the head - intake manifold coolant passages.

ok, its been a while, but changing the gasakets didnt do anything. what else could be the culprit?? i might have to take this one to the stealership!
