I would like to install a powertrax no-slip locker but am not sure what to order. I know that the rear diff is the Ford 8.8 with 31 spline axle but I do not know if I need the 3/4" or the 7/8" cross shaft. Any ideas?

Thanks

I also need to find out if I have the 7/8" or 3/4" cross shaft. Do they change by year or is by something else? I have a 91' Ford Explorer with the factory L/S and was also wondering if I had to reset the gears if when I install the Powertrax with the factory L/S, as opposed to the open differential?

biggs85k,

I am fairly certain that you do not have to reset the gears when installing the powertrax. The locker just replaces the spider gears.

Not sure about the 3/4 or 7/8. I didn't know there was a choice.

I did one in a 8.8 3.73 w/LS. Like R&R said, no gear setup is required.

7/8".

The Powertrax part numbers for Explorer applications are:
92-0688-3108 if you have an open diff
92-0688-3128 if you have a TracLoc limited slip

GJarrett,

You were right, 7/8" it is. I did some more checking and finally found out that the 3/4" cross-shaft is for the Ford 8.8 on 1986 and older vehicles.
