- 2015 Explorer XLT
Hi all,
I have a 2015 Ford Explorer with 120,000 miles. The front passenger side seal on the PTU had a very SLOW leak, more like a WEEP. I was going to attempt to change the PTU oil, but when I noticed the leakage, I took it to a mechanic who replaced the seal and said they 'changed the fluid' in the process. Its now several months since the repair and I noticed there is fluid on the ground. I jacked the vehicle up and crawled under to take a look. The cross member behind the PTU is coated with oil. My initial thought was the rear seal had now failed. After some research I now wonder is it possible the mechanic overfilled the PTU? It seems odd that it would have taken a few months, but the oil is very thick. Its just now gotten warmer, we're in northern Michigan and have started driving it on longer trips as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
