2006 Explorer
Hi - new to the forum and have a question about a transmission problem on my 2006 Explorer. There is a severe hesitation when taking off from a stop. The engine roars but the vehicle won't accelerate as quickly as it should. It does move, but slowly. Then suddenly, it will snap back to normal. - If it were a standard shift, I'd suspect the clutch was slipping. The problem is intermittent but getting progressively worse.

I've had this to the dealer once and they couldn't recreate the problem, but I had them perform a flush and regular service anyway. It obviously didn't help.

This problem is different than the lunging problems I've read about.

Any suggestions? Any words of wisdom I should share with the dealer?

Thanks,
Dave

I'm having the same problem. Happens from a dead stop and it seems like it gets stuck in 1st gear and like you said if it was a standard it acts like you are riding the clutch.
I just had mine at the dealer and they don't have a clue

Use the search feature in this forum and you will find several posts regarding the 6 speed tranny and this issue. Just wanted to mention it since the two of you have had no comments yet.

Thank you. I did a search as you suggested and as a result of finding a Ford TSB bulletin that may address the issue I'm having I've scheduled an appointment on the 1st to have the dealer I bought my Explorer XLT from to recalibrate the TCM and PCM settings per TSB 07-23-2 that was posted but ironically I had an argument with the girl in the service department when she tried to imply that doing a search on my problem and finding this forum was bogus, really pissed me off because I'm not a formally trained technician but I've been doing my own repairs on my vehicles for 30+ years and I would consider myself very mechanically inclined vs the few years this girls been working the service counter.
When I bought the SUV in February I also purchased a portfolio extended warranty on it as well so I have to be careful that I don't do anything to void that coverage because I also located a post about changing the factory Mercron SP tranny fluid to Amsoil's fluid..
