I have a 95 xlt I had the serpentine belt replaced last spring and was running fine. at the end of the summer I started to get the squeak when A/C was running. Now it is doing it more and more since a/c runs when defrosters are running. I’m also getting an antifreeze odor from time to time. And one day I had a nice release of steam from under the hood once could not find out where it was coming from, it only did this once. I keep thinking that the water pump is going but I’m not getting any leaking. Radiator is full and I'm not getting any over heating. My shop says that they can't find anything wrong I really don't need my truck blowing up anybody have a clue. Or am I just dreaming. HELP???

Have you checked to see if the heater control valve is leaking?? It is a small plastic valve with one vacuum line and three coolant lines running into it. These have a tendancy to leak over time.

Yep the heater valve may be leaking, mind did, and my heater core also sprung a leak and would drip onto the exhaust.

Heater control valves are common. If anything check it out maybe a hose is loose. Hopefully.

mine was the freeze plug rusted out on the back of the engine.

Do u smell the anitfreeze in your car, if so check the heater core.

smell

No just on the outside Iwill be working on it this weekend

no luck

I worked over my motor from front to back. took it to a friend nothing then in a moment of stupidity i took it to Ford still nothing everybody can smell it now and then but they can’t find a leak and unless an antifreeze god is adding it I’m not loosing any fluid. So I'm at a total loss. I know what is going to happen I'm going to get on the beach and Bamm something is going to let loose. Leaving me with a huge bill to get towed off the beach.:(

We have different years/styles so I don't no if this affects you.

My 93 has the exact same problem, Inconsistant AF smell outside, I posted here and got a lot of great ideas and checked a ton of stuff. For me it turned out to be the radiator. Not that its bad but they have a known swelling problem between the plastic tanks and the aluminum core. Its more prononced in the winter when exterior temps are inconsistant, and almost not at all in the summer.

Hope this helps
