Antilock brakes are unbeatable on dry and rain soaked roads and gravel, and they work extremely well in my 2000 model. Now snowy and icy roads, that is a whole different animal! Antilock brakes SUCK on snowy and icy roads. Both my Cadillac and my Explorer, do more antilocking than braking on snow packed roads.
I have found that I can stop better by pumping the brakes myself, than the computer. Now having said that, if something happens that you have to SLAM on your brakes on either dry, wet, or snowy roads, you are better to have them, (especially in snow), as you can steer around that object, vs. turning the wheel and still heading straight, as the front wheel are sliding on the snow. So.....I would recommend leaving the anti-lock feature enabled. You are better off WITH them, than without in the end. You can always pump the pedal yourself to slow down, rather than letting the computer do it.
