My ABS light is on, and my anti lock brakes don't work. If I'm on a slippery surface and I slam on the brakes, all 4 wheels lock up. Any ideas?

take it to get serviced, asap. no ABS means your xfer case probably won't engage either.

common for an ABS sensor to do this. A bunch replace the rear which is on the Diff.
Others have said Master Cyl. sensor fixed theirs.
Mine i had to replace the Rear.

I just replaced the rear sensor in mine.....transfer case works.....light is still on. Do I have to have a code cleared?....disconnect the battery?....this is a 02' Sport....sorry to highjack your post:)

replaced the rear differential sensor in my moms 03 ex-then reset the light its held on by a 10 mm and costs about $30

Patrick, from one Patrick to another, was your mom's ABS light on and her anti-lock brakes not working? Or was her light on and anti-lock brakes still working? My light is on for a reason, my anti-lock brakes are not working. Can a novice/mediocre mechanic make the sensor switch that you describe? I would like to avoid the dealership.

well i work at a dealership so i had access to our computer-scan tool.. thats how i knew it was THAT sensor.. i dont know if her abs was not working but the light would come on-flash and such though it is VERY easy to switch out its held up by a 10mm if i can remember and all you need is a small 1/4 ratchet... if you have big hands it could be a little more tricky...as it is on the top of the diff. the new part i put in looked revised because apparently its not uncommon for the old sensors to fail.

honeslty though, you need to find out a way to pull that code!! make friend with someone at the dealer or something-cause to just tell you what it is, i believe its $89.95 or get your hands on an abs code reader... you shouldnt just throw parts at her and hope its that.... could be a front sensor for all you know..

yes pull the battery cable and hook it back up... that will clear codes BUT if that wasnt what it was-you wont get 50 ft without the light coming back on
