Anti-theft device HELP!!!

My son has the Explorer. Just called to say that he cannot get the key to turn and start the car. The "theft" light keeps comeing on. He is stuck in a parking lot right now about 100 miles from where I am. Can anyone help?????

try rocking the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key.
its supposed to blink THEFT while the vehicle is off. this is normal. if it is steady AND he cant turn the key, perhaps he needs to have his PATS II key reprogrammed.

The key won't physically turn?

They key won't turn. So my son says anyway. He has tried rocking the stearing wheel back and forth.

make sure the car is not in gear. it wont start if the car is not in park.

also, make sure he has the key with the huge black handle on it. if its just an all metal key, it wont work because it doesnt have a transponder on it. i know ppl who have tried to use the glovebox key to start the car....

has this ever happened before? if so, look at getting a new ignition cylinder.
