i have a 99 eddie bauer which has been hit in the front passenger side and during the rebuild i found a extra peice on the parts that i am using to replace my damaged parts and the anti theft device (button with a rubber tip)on the passenger side inner fender structure with a female plug and two wires coming off of it. the problem is my wiring harness doesnt have the male end or any wires that will connect to this??? do all explorers have these? my explorer is fully loaded with every option but i cant seem to find out where this goes or if it even does????? any help would be great!

Is it a plug or a little button? Can you stick your finger down inside?

anti theft

the button sticks up about a 1/4 inch and is about 1 inch in total length and is located in front of the windshield washer bottle and has one bolt that holds it to the inner structure with a rubber nipple on the end that pushes down when you shut the hood. it is about as big around as a large pencil.

Sounds like what a remote start has.

yes it is just like a kill switch for a remote start, i have a manual for the electrical components for the explorer and it says it is for the anti theft device, i just dont have a connector for it to plug into

I have one but as far as I know it's not active.

I'm pretty sure your's has the anti-theft system simply because it's an EB. If it has keyless entry it definitely has the alarm system. What you are describing it definitely the switch to set off the alarm if the hood is opened. I'll go check where it plugs into...

EDIT: Well, I couldn't get my airbox out to really see where the wires go. All I could see was they went through a gray clip that was clipped to part of the washer fluid/engine coolant reservoir. They went up under the airbox after that.

isnt that the switch that u press if you get into an accident to start fuel flow? i believe when u get into an accident, the fuel is cut from entering the engine, (safety thing) and when u press that button, it allows gas to flow again.

No. What he is describing in without a doubt the hood switch for the factory alarm system.

I believe the fuel pump cut off switch is under the dash on the passenger side.

Here's a pic. I could see the connector, but didn't know it was the one I was looking for. :o

ANTI THEFT

YES YES YES THAT IS THE ONE I AM TALKING ABOUT!!! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!! AND I LOOKED AGAIN LAST NIGHT AND EVEN PULLED THE WIRING HARNESS COVER BACK OFF ALL THE WAY TO THE CENTER OF THE RADIATOR SUPPORT AND ALL THE WAY TO THE COMPUTER MODULE IN THE FIREWALL AND STILL NO WIRES LEFT UNACCOUTNED FOR! I LOOKED IN THE ELECTRICAL MANUAL LAST NIGHT AND THE WIRES IS SUPPOSED TO BE TAN/GREEN & BLACK IS THE COLORS OF THE TWO WIRES. I WENT TO THE MAIN JUNCTION BOX AND THERE IS NO WIRES THAT COLOR. I AM STILL AT A STAND STILL ON THIS BUT I APPRECIATE EVERYONES HELP AND THIS SITE IS GREAT!!!!

THE BUTTON MENTIONED IN THE PRIOR POST I FOUND WHEN I REPLACED THE HEATER BOX AND SAW THE RED BUTTON STICKING OUT AND BEING A CURIOUS PERSON I PUSHED IT AND IT STAYED IN SO I ASK THE FORD DEALER AND HE SAID THE SAME ABOUT THE FUEL SWITCH, THANKS!

Are you sure that is for an alarm? Isn't that for the underhood light?

not for sure but everything i have looked at and ask about comes back to the anti theft device

The under hood light is triggered by mercury swishing around. (Like that scientific statement?)

Bigtime- It looks like that harness goes North toward the wire wall, not toward the radiator.

yes you are right , i have checked the wiring harness back towards the firewall and still no extra wires. This has really got me puzzled . . . and this is the original wiring harness so i know i havent gotten ahold of a different harness. the best i can tell the only off springs from the harness going to the firewall is for the washer pump and sensor, ac controls and heater controls in which all of those have plugged up fine but nothing left for this button. the insurance company had already cut the inner structure off before i bought it so i dont even know for sure if it had this button or not but i have looked at probably 30 eb and they all have this button! :(

That'd be a mercury switch.

i have a 98 with the same switch....it is late now but tomorrow eastern time i will find out for you exactly where those wires go...i believe they go to the alarm computer so i will find it and let you know where they go....good luck till then...
