So my gf's car (2001 Explorer Sport) is having problems starting when its cold out side. When it will not start the "Theft" light is flashing very rapidly. If she keeps trying (removing the key, re-inserting it and turning it over) eventually it will start but some times it takes many attempts (5-10 minutes).

I know its the PATS system and I have read a bunch about it on the forum. I asked her to see what the flashing sequence was but she tells me it only flashes rapidly (I'll need to confirm this weekend) so I was hoping some one could offer some insight as to where in the PATS system to look

I've tried to locate schematics so I can dive deeper into the problem but I can not seem to find them with out buying the whole electrical schematic. Does any one have a copy that can help me out with the pages I need?

Has any one seen this problem where its related to the cold? I am thinking its a connection that is loose when wire or terminal contracts due to the cold weather.

Thank you in advance.
