Any Decent Tires Suggested in the under $85.00 Range ?

Time to replace the Michelin Cross Terrain tires my used 01 explorer came with.

Anything in particular to pay attention to besides 253 75r 15 ?

My driving is about 95% Highway and in good conditions 85% of the time.

The Michelins have barely lasted 40,000 miles even though they are rated to 65,000, whats up with that?

Frequent rotation & re-balancing will help you obtain a higher mileage on your tires. Alot of members like the Bridgestone Dueler Revo. Since you'll be on the highway the majority of the time, I would definately go with the Revo's. Another good type is the Michelin MTX according to other members on this forum. If you want something with a more aggressive tread, consider the BFG All Terrains.

Might also look at the Kumho ecstas, best road tire for the money, hands down IMO

He's asking for tires in the $85 range, which does not include Revos or Goodrich A/Ts.

Tirerack.com has BFG Long Trail and Rugged Trail right at that price. They're good all season tires, lots of trucks/SUVs come with those from the factory now, including 3rd gen Explorers. You could also get Bridgestone Dueler HTs or Continental ContriTrac SUV tires for that price. Check out that site, there's a ton of different tires for that price. And they've got user reviews of all of them.

I have General XP2000 II. Pretty good tires. Surely better than the one I replaced them with- Firestone Wilderwhatever. I think it's even less than $85 each.

Are the Revo's very noisy?
