So what has actually changed since this generation of Explorers was introduced in 2006? They look almost identical. Same engine and tranny options.

Has anything significant changed or any bugs been worked out (oither than replacing the ridiculous door panels that had no interior handle on the arm rest)?

(other than replacing the ridiculous door panels that had no interior handle on the arm rest)?

I have been driving this thing for almost two weeks and I still cant get the hang of just grabbing that stupid handle DOWN there!

I had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of '09 Explorers after I decided to replace my '95 XLT. Unfortunately, I was disappointed when I got a hold of the new '09 Explorer brochure. The changes for '09 were limited to a Sirius Travel Link upgrade to the navigation and the addition of an upgrade to the ESC and RSC to include a trailer towing sensors that compensate for trailer sway while towing.

But, my disappointment stemmed from the elimination of power running boards as an option on Eddie Bauer models. Beginning on '09's, they are only available as an option on Limited models. :( I had my heart set on an Eddie Bauer, but have always hated the look of the standard running boards as being "tacked on", rather than integrated into the car's exterior styling. Anyway, I almost upgraded to a Limited, but realized that third row seating and A/C are standard on Limiteds and can NOT be deleted at the factory. Since my need for this SUV is for trailering a classic car, towing capacity is paramount. The third row A/C lowers towing capacity by 500 pounds.

Given all these changes, I decided I needed to find a leftover '08, optioned up just the I wanted it. Thankfully, I found one and snapped it up quickly. A great deal from the dealer and awesome 0% financing for 72 months sealed the deal. I brought it home last Saturday and have been thrilled with the new ride ever since.

My '95 XLT? Keeping it in the family....my nephew can't wait to pick it up over Thanksgiving break. These cars are like Eveready batteries.....they keep going, and going, and going.....
