really not a "trail run" thread so I figured it would be better posted here...move it if you need to. anyway:

as the post says, I'm in atlanta and I've been looking online and all for a few public trails to go out onto.

dont really care if it's mud or rock so long as it's not an exclusive "club" run trail where I'd have to join and pay $$$ membership fees.

and I dont want illegal trails either :p

I dont want tobe out there and police show up saying "wtf you doing, come with us to jail" to me or forest service fining me for destruction of forest or what not.

I just need a basic trail to go test my rig out and see what I need to modify first is all :teary:

oh ok cool deal, I saw that site last night and thought all the trails were atv only haha...kept running into "vehicles not permitted" and stuff like that in the descriptions.

have you been to either of these personally?

what type of trails are they, length?

I haven't been to either of them. I don't think that I will be going to the them anytime soon. Especially the 1st one since it says it is expert level and I would probably just be getting in the way. The 2nd one says that it is 5 miles long, IDK about the 1st one though.

Beasly isn't a walk in the park. I honestly think Beasley is harder than the stuff I've done at Tellico. This is due to the lack of traction there when it is wet and I've managed to go twice when it was wet! It is hill after hill or good ole Georgia red clay. I've winched more there than anywhere. Rocky Flats I thought was closed down. Maybe I'm wrong. Other than those two, there are miles and miles of forest roads in the north Georgia mountains. Some get tricky enough to make a novice rider in a stocker have a good time. Go pick up a forest service map and you will see "Jeep Trail" on them all over the place. These are legal roads but not many around here are difficult enough to be considered "trails". Anderson Creek is closed for renovation probably for another year or so. It was an easy yet fun place and was a favorite among the less built crowd.
Unfortunately the best way is to join a local club. Many of the local clubs have members with land that they let members ride on. I know of one that is fairly well setup for trail riding.

I've got the same problem, no where to go it seems. One place i have been is alittle of a trip if you are truely in Atlanta ( i live in Suwanee (north of atlanta) and it takes me about 1.5-2hrs to get to) is called the Tatum Lead Trail. Its north of Ellijay near a park called Fort Mountain, about 5 miles long, but not very serious. I think with some decent tires you could do this trail stock.

Also, close to where i live there are some trails underneath the powerlines running next to Peachtree Industrial Road between 20 and McGinnis Ferry. However i havent heard anything about if they are legal or not so i stay off of them, yet i do see ATV's there quite often.

most power line runs aren't legal. I'd stay away from them too. I do see people on them here almost every weekend though.

JasonB - what powerlines are you talking about? I haven't seen anyone around here on powerlines but have been looking for some that are worth a crap since I hadn't found anywhere else to go.

He probably means the same ones i was talking about since we both live in suwanee. If you take Lawrenceville Suwanee / Suwanee Dam Rd to Peachtree Industrial make a right at that intersection (going towards the Kroger). There looks to be a entrance about half a mile past the next red light on PIB. But as he pointed out, this probably isnt legal.

PS> Just sent in my money to become Elite :-)

How about a damn street run? How about some streeters in ATL? JESUS, you guys kill me :D

Ok, thanks. I might check it out sometime.
BTW- congrats on your new eliteness!

Thanks :-)

Back to the thread, if your just looking for some quick fun, you could probably get away with riding around on land they just cleared for a subdivision, lord knows that presents alot of choices :-) I'd just look for nails and such first and probably avoid anything close to a major road.

In the mean time i'll settle for parking at the grass lot at school and hope it rains alittle :-) (How bad have you got it?)

I'd be too afraid of getting a flat from nails if I went to a place they cleared for a subdivision. Plus the only new subdivisions I know of are right off of major roads.

im actually in class right now :-) Gainesville College
cool, my dad went to gainesville for a couple of years.

Yeah i enjoy it. One of these days im gonna drive around between classes and look for trails. There's alot of 4x4 rigs in the parking lot here so there must be somewhere to go. Had the explorer since april and i've still only done 1 trail :-\

I've had my X since Feb.(since I could drive) and have only been on dirt roads. :( That's why I want to find some trails so bad.

If thats the case, i'd recommend that trial i mentioned above. IMO its a great first time trail. Its fun, but like i said doesnt require a heavily modified vehicle to do it. Infact 2wd could probably handle it with no problem. Only thing i'd change is more mud :-)

I am going to see if I can talk my dad into both of us going there one weekend and have him bring his Chevy. From your pics it looks like it was pretty easy but still alot of fun.

I just talked to my dad again and he agreed that when I get my 31s and wheels we will go to the Tatum Lead Trail! I will probably bring my dig. cam., so I'll try to get some pics out on the trail.
