I too am from Suwanee/Duluth, yall stay off the power lines, they are 100% illegal everywhere and Gwinnett County has no shame in writing tickets and the power compainies will slap you with a fine quick since there are underground pipes/lines in alot of the muddy areas that can cost a ton to fix. Do like Jason said and go up to Dahlonega, its about an hour and the trails are endless and the country up there is really nice. I would love to get a small group together over my christmas break.
Here is a link that shows some more trails (some have already been discussed) that are all throughout the southeast. It has directions or websites for most of them.
man I really need to get my email notification fixed haha, lots of replies.
I live in chamblee right off the north 285 loop one exit over from p-industrial.
Where do I go to get a forestry map? As long as I wont get into any trouble wandering around on those roads that sounds like a good starting point to me.
I did the whole "new construction" thing when I had my grand cherokee back in charleston and got written a ticket for it (vandalism or something like that, cant remember) which is why I stay away from those areas. Dont need to have fun that costs me an arm and a leg
anyway thanks for the input guys and keep it coming. Anyone got any street addresses where these trails start or know of any others? I'm a mapquest fiend haha
Ya'll let me know when you decide to go . I've been lookin for some folks to go with, but havent finished getting some of the little stuff together that the local clubs require for membership. Right now my suspension and tires are pretty much stock, but I'm workin on 4-door leafs, AAL, shackles and TT, and hopefully some 31's. I live in Tucker so anywhere northeast would be good. Also a member over at sxc and been tryin to get them together for a street run somewhere, like Helen maybe...ya'll should check it out.
you can forest service maps at any ranger station and at places like REI usually. Could probably get them online as well. The marked roads will be legal roads. Just don't go off of them and keep an eye out for signage that may show a road closed.
Marty, what clubs are you referring to that require mods? Most clubs will require some basic stuff such as safety devices and recovery to go on rides.
Kinda OT, but i saw an explorer today at the intersection of 20 and Buford Highway, white, grill guard, w/ square lights. Couldnt tell much more, was it any one of you? And then i saw on the way home a highly modded white Durango, GaSouthern1 in town? It was parked across the street from NGHS. Just wondering
Gasouthern's durango isn't highly modified. Its got slightly larger tires and some trimming, but I haven't been able to talk him into the SAS yet. The white one.. did it have a big flag on the back window? And was it like 6" lift with 35"s or so? If so, that guy is a member here but I've only seen him post a few times to sale stuff.
Couldnt see the explorer really well, but it was mostly stock looking. I dont really know what was done to the durango, but it had a grill guard, tail light guards, and a decal across the top of the windshield. there was a decent looking BII in the driveway too.
Naa, my mog axles are coming in soon and I am gonna put some 38" Iroks on them on hummer beadlocks. It will also be held up with coilovers...should work really well, I cant wait. I am paying Jason 30 bucks a week for labor so it should be done by christmas.
We do trail rides at WITC in Tenn about 4-1/2 from Atlanta. This place is awesome they have a full shop showers and bath rooms. They serve meals and not at a bad price either. We are trying to go in March 05 for our next ride. They also have cabins but we usually camp. Camping is free just cost to wheel.
Here is a link if yall didn't already know of the place.

I'm following this post closely. I'm looking for trails in the area too, just simple mud or climbing stuff nothing really harsh. I'd probably bring my ATV for the rough stuff to watch you guy's.
My x is not modded except for some mud tires and lights to fool around hunting camp a bit but I dont mind a getting a little dirty.
My dad and I went to Tatum Lead Trail today. It took about 2 hours to get to. When we found it and got back to the actual trail, we drove for about 2 miles like our directions said. These two miles were actually part of Rock Creek Trail. Once we got through the 2 miles, we came up on a corner and found two nice trails which were both blocked off :fire:. According to our maps/directions that was the Tatum Lead Trail. We turned around and went down some small trails that were off of the main trail. We were surprised when we got back on one of the trails (which was also the one with the most ruts), and found a Nissan 240SX . The guy was obviously hunting back in the woods. We went down the trail some more and we were going to cross this big creek and continue it but we saw horse tracks(so a forest ranger had been there) and couldn't find any place of where tire tracks continued after the creek. So my dad said no we weren't going to cross just in case the ranger was back there and/or no trucks were allowed. We turned around and found another small side trail and went down through there. It was pretty tight and had a bunch of small water crossings(no more than 1ft deep). Then we get to the end and find another gate blocking the trail. Of course there was NO WHERE to turn around so I had to back up a good few hundred feet and turn around in the creek. It was stupid that all of the trails that no vehicles were allowed on said just that, but they didn't put one on this trail and just let you find out once you get to the end.
Overall though, we still had fun. We were disappointed that the whole trail we came to go on was blocked off. The trails we went on were pretty easy, but you couldn't do them without 4wd(especially since it rained for 3+ days straight) and you couldn't do them in a full-size. We are hoping that they just blocked off Tatum Lead Trail since it had been raining so much and they just didn't want people to damage it(or it might already be damaged from the rain). Here are some pictures we took while up there: PICS
