What you need are some LED bulbs. LEDs are much brighter than your standard halogen bulbs that you find in use for your current interior lighting. Go on eBay or to a local AutoZone or PepBoys and look for blue LED bulbs that fit your vehicle. Check your owners manual for the series or model number. If you lost that, check online. In my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport, the series number for the map lights is 168 or T10. They are the same thing. The bulb is the same size as the stock bulb and the base has a wedge shape, so it will fit into the wedge socket that already exists. You can get a pair for like $3.95 on eBAY. Good Luck.
I had some blue lights in my x when I bought it. They were actual blue lights, the glass was blue. I took them out of the front dome lights though becuase they were not bright enough, the white ones I put back in are not bright enough either, what should I get? I still have the blue lights too I think if anyone is interested.

That's the best way. They just pop in like the old ones and are way better. The Painted ones will just fade over time and burn out sooner. But if you like to tinker with stuff the Dome Light LED Conversion that jtamoor101 would be better b/c you can but as many leds you want and get it really bright.
Noma moon ray, you heard of these? They are backyard lights that you string out for lighting. They run on 12 volts and last I checked the bulbs are the same as many automobile interior light bulbs -kind of a long flattened oval shape with a squarshed end that has wires coming out and alongside the glass.
Get them at any garden center in a variety of colors. I know they fit my first gen, and camper trailer lights are the same too.
I bought blue replacement bulbs at Ace Hardware. I have them in my '98 ranger. They're plenty bright. I went to the blue because the white was to bright.
well my first time tryin to wire in colored lights i used 4 Christmas tree lights , i had a strand of them that got cut somehow and said hey these might work , i tried 2 the first time but they got too hot and burned out , 3 the next time and same thing , 4 and they lasted a few months and let off a nice color , just thought id throw that out there for the people like me who try stuff that they find !
