Looking to put two 10" subs in the back of my 98 Explorer. Anyone know how good these KenWood Subs sound? Are they worth the money?

My friend has a couple of those 12s...In a sealed enclosure those subs suck. Weak low end.

I would never buy any Kenwood subs. I hate sony subs with a passion...but I'd rather buy some xplodes then these kenwoods...I just don't like the sound of them.

Are you buying subs from Best Buy??

Not really sure. Just shopping around looking at what is the best bang for my buck. I am really open to just about anything. I don't want to buy something that is cheep or crappy but nothing to over the top either. I saw these in the store and was wondering about what people thought of them. I am however most likely getting 10"ers.

2 things here. From experience, always buy the best subs. It may be more expensive, but if you don't you will be kicking yourself later.

Also, you should be able to find better prices than best buy.

About those subs, I am not a fan of them. I think they are not worth their cost. They don't sound as good as competitors. (from my experience playing around with them in stores)

I just got two 10" alpine type r's and im liking them so far.. maybe you will want to check them out.

i have 2 kenwood 12's in my Ex now,, no problem with them at all , lots of bass, it all goes back to the head unit and the amp, subs are subs when you are running in the 1000 watt range like me,, but my amp is a real 1000,watt, not a cheap one,,
as long as the kenwoods are installed right , are air tight , and the box is the right size , they make as much bass as any of them,, i usually use Rocford Fosgates,, look at them too if you want,, for the most bass you have to fire them to the back like you are containing the bass,

I hate the Rockford P1 and P2 subs...not worth their cost at all.

How much are you looking to spend??

Can you build your own enclosure??

I go the opposite thinking- shoot your wad on the front stage. Even a cheap sub can manage teh one octave it is required to produce in the proper enclosure. All your real sound comes from the mains, not the sub. If you're building slowly, and can save for equipment, sure, go for the expensive subs. I usually use fairly cheap subs, but not junk.

I really do not want to spend more than $100 on each sub. And yes, I am building my own enclosure.

I'm running a pair of the 12" subs from the same series in my explorer. I have no problem with how mine sound. I'm running them in a ported box though instead of a sealed box. I tried the sealed box first and they sucked so bad I didn't even bother putting the drill/screwdriver away. I just went right back to the ported box even though its twice the size.

Best bet is to get 1 Orion HCCA 10" sub in a box tuned for it and be happy. Will pound like probably 4 of those kenwoods all day long :D

Now that box I like...Looks like its tuned a little high though.

Its really heavy and I get really DEEP bass out of it no question. I know its not tuned specifically for the subs I'm using but its doing its job well enough that I'd never switch to a sealed box in place of it.

Big enough to use as a table too on a long trip LOL

Nice....what are the interior dimensions and the dimensions of the port...I can tell you the specs of the box from there

It's an Audio Enhancers enclosure. Nearly all of them are tuned from 38-42hz, which should be the sweet spot for a serious cabin-gain bump.
