I need some driving instructions to properly control my Ford Explorer '95 XLT when driving on slippery roads.

I would like to know if it is safer to change from 2WD to AUTO 4WD when it rains and the roads are slippery (I mean driving on the curvy roads - asphalt - when it rains).

Running on AUTO 4WD, is it more secure? Is it advantageous for stability?

Thank you very much for replying to my question.

Regards to everybody from Spain…!!!!

i usually leave mine in 2wd. if you need the 4wd on wet roads, youre going too fast. Its also not going to help you steer *too* much; its more for accelerating.

Its ok to run Auto on slippery roads. If it gives you a little more reasurance, go ahead an do it. Just don't get to "I have four wheel drive and I'm invincible" and drive to fast. Its not really necessay to do it. Espically if you hydroplain. When the happens you want you wheels to free wheel, but with the Auto engaged, it will show a speed difference and kick it in. And it will in turn, take more to regain traction.

Maybe u need new tires

The main key (as with life) is everything gently and with moderation. No sudden accel, steering, or braking.

If you feel the rear trying to come around, gently let off the gas and try to steer out of it. Do not hit the brakes in that situation.

if you dont have yourself a set of decent tires do yourself a favor and get some the auto also helps when you accelerate so the tires dont spin the 98+ only have auto hi and low no 2wd
