any valve pros here. i got a crazy exhaust idea.

anyone got some ideas for me.

i put two turn signal bulbs in each compartment, one yellow and one blue, and wired them to a switch. now i can floss blue lights and switch them on the fly when i see cops!!!!! best thing i have ever done!

now for my next project. i want to put my factory muffler and a 40 series muffler in and have a motorized valve in front of them. this way i can switch from pimp to low-key on the fly just like my lights!

i went to midas and a no-namer. they both looked at me crazy but they said it could be done. the no-namer exhaust shop would do it if i supplied the valves. he said a dual rear set-up alone would cost $500-650 then i would have to pay extra for the specialty work.

does anyone know of some large motorized valves that would work. i found a hand faucet type one 2" at home depot. the no-namer mentioned i would have to watch out for the valves freezing up on me with all the soot forming up when its closed. i also figure i need a safety design that makes sure it doesnt close the other valve until the other one is fully open.

i thought you had to reset the computer each time you change exhausts. the no-namer seemed that this on-the-fly switching would have no effect at all to the engine.

Ferrarri has a valve like that. It opens at WOT and high revs to make more HP.

They make valves like that for boats to go from through transom (loud as hell strait piped) to go through the outdrive and exit under water for docking and such.

Do a search on marine style exhaust and you may find what you are looking for.

JCwhitney and other parts places have manually operated exhaust cutouts. They work via a cable.

right and I can understand using a cutout for when you are off road to make MORE POWER (bypass the exhaust) but too make it loud or quiet? It takes all types I suppose......

You only need one valve (per side).

Place the valve inline with the low resistance muffler (the loud one). When it's closed, the exhaust flows through the quiet muffler. When it's open, the exhaust gases will take the path of least resistance and flow through the loud one.

It's the same principle as the cutout.

410fortune, i only have one car and sometimes i like to stay low-key and sometimes i like to show off. i drive from NYC to Philly all the time (2-3 hour drive), and a loud as hell muffler would prob get on my nerves and drown out some good tunes. plus the cops bug me all the time, so when im not in the mood for them, id rather not attract their attention. but i would love a loud muffler for cruisin on the block and joy riding. oh, and im never sellin it especially if i pull this off.

pelado, i am assuming that mufflers work like electrical resistors. so, if you have two in parrallel, a small amount will still flow through the factory when the single valve is open. since i would have the luxury to turn it off i would hate to not get the loudest possible sound from the flowmaster. but, if it is very minimum or i am wrong about the parrallel resistor theory, then this is an excellent idea. it would cut costs and make it very simple. plus it solves the safety problem so i wouldnt have to worry about both valves being closed and blocking too much exhaust.

does anyone have any views on the sound and performance differences of having a single flowmaster or having the flowmaster in parrallel with the factory?

I'd personally just get a good aftermarket muffler and tailpipe and forget about the stock system. As long as you don't stay at WOT all the time, most mufflers are bearable and not too loud. I recommend Magnaflow.

What about this idea have the muffler shop weld pipe that bypass the muffler but connects to the oem exhaust system. Then you could put the valve in the pipe that bypass the muffler or put it in the y section of the pipe. This way you would have a open and mufflered exhaust without having to setups. Some racing headers are setup to do this.

man i dont think the 40 series is loud enough u should care. its legal on the street, like its not loud enough to get a ticket for im sure. so just put it on there and put the valve so its open exhaust or 40 series.

AMerrBauer, i still dont have pics yet, im working on a digi cam but i dont have a comp either. my lights are the ****. i have single switch wired to the ****pit. when on it lights up ground effects and front and rear license plate neons, and all my parking lights and turn signals are blue. when off, it turns everything off and switches the park lights and turn signals to yellow. i shoved a yellow and a blue bulb in each housing and bought a bunch of $5 30A relays from ford for the circuitry. it is so much fun, cause i can break peoples necks and have them wonder how i dont get pulled over. im going to try to have a right up about it soon when i get my comp and digi.

JCWhitney does have an "exhaust cutout". so this idea has been done before. the exhaust cutout is meant to switch between the factory setup and completely open pipe. will it sound good when completely open? isnt that too little backpressure? me and my friend found a machine shop that we have access to, we were thinking of doing everything ourselves so that if i dont like the sound we can modify it easily.

bates, im sure i wont get a ticket alone for the exhaust, i just dont want to attract any more attention than i need to when im not in the mood. plus, i like it quiet sometimes on long trips and driving in residential neighborhoods late at night.
