Any way to change the radio default?

My 2003 Explorer XLT Premium stereo system (Cassette and CD) defaults to the radio station and/or cd track rather than the clock. Is there any way to change the default to the clock?

If I'm driving and hit the clock button, it works as it should....goes to radio station (when changing stations) for a few seconds and then back to clock. Whenever I start the car, however, it always starts on the radio station....so I always have to push the clock button.

My dealer says this is the way it was designed, but a friend of mine says his works differently.

Help.

that is how my gf's ex is, a big pain in the ass and someone at Ford really screwed up on. I would be interested if anyone knows if this can be changed as well.

do u have the manuel that came with the car? it should say right in there if it is at all possible..it might just have been over looked..otherwise it should say like DSP or clock/DSP or somethng like that

This happens in my mothers SUV (Explorer 2003) down in the city as well. Could be perhaps the one of the biggest annoyances of the 3rd gen trucks. (And as most people don't bother with the manuals, puts more flaw on Ford)

Yeah my stock stero did that too. Pissed me off each time I had to hit the CLK button to see what time it was. But, I solved the problem with my Pioneer aftermarket.

Must be Fords boiler plate answer as they told me the same thing. From the lack of answers I could take this as what you see is what you get. I did discover something today that I find interesting. If after pushing the clk button you turn the radio off (pushing the knob) and then turn it back on later during the trip it still works. However as soon as the trip is over and you turn off the key it goes back to the way we do not want it. So that tells me the radio will do what we want it to but Ford designed it to kill the power to the radio clock memory. Anyone know how to fix that?

All of our Xs (we've had 5 of them) defaults to clock when you turn it on if that's the way you left it. And if you leave it on station, then that's what it defaults to. Your problem sounds strange.

What year are your X's? From all the other postings here it appears to be something Ford changed in either 02 or 03 model year.

Strange is an understatement, that is why I am hoping others like you can solve it, as the dealer will not.

The X's we've had are 91, 94, 96, 00, 03 (Sport).

The only thing the dealer will tell me is if you get the message center (mine does not) you can set the clock as we want it to.

2003 XLT Default

I just puchased a 2003 XLT after owning a 2002 XLT. 2002 XLT would default to clock display just fine. 2003 will not. Annoying. The lady that owned the 2003 XLT before me must have been annoyed too, as the little finger plate directly below the radio is very worn and scratched where her right thumb must have contacted it every time she hit the clock button!
