I have seen all the info on getting 2wd out of 4wd auto with the brown wire mod. But will this get 4wd Hi also. I hate this 4 auto crap. I have a 96 with control trac, so I have 2wd, but I want a full 4 hi drive system. Can this be done?

Several of us have looked into this, and it seems you would have to send a modulated signal to the xfer case to do it. It can be done, but you would need to sit down with an oscilloscope to probe the wiring to see what signal it needs, and then reproduce that signal.

Edit: one of these days I'll get around to figuring it out. I've had several people ask me, but I just haven't gotten to it.

That's what I thought. I was hoping someone on here had done the leg work already. I would just need to find the right signal being sent to the xfer case that signals the rear wheels are slipping and make that hot constantly. But would that cause something to break? Is there any difference in a full 4 hi system and my 4 auto that would cause any more wear on parts. I do not live where it snows, but would just like the 4 hi for light offroad use. The 4 auto is very clunky and noisy. Mine nerver seems to apply the power smoothly.

I'll have to look into this..I've got the Ford Maintenance CD for my X...maybe there is a clue in it....

the issue here is control over the front driveshaft clutch. It's fully engaged in low range. Much like like 2wd mod from the auto4wd, is there a way to switch the truck in to 4wd low, but put a cutout in the control for the shift motor, so it doesn't shift?

I've got a post up seeing if someone close to me will "volunteer" their truck to figure it out.

Yeah, I think this is something alot of people would be interested in. While the auto, has some advantages, ok maybe not, I want 4hi.

If you run a smaller tire, or air down on one axle, you should get a (hopefully) constant signal to the clutch to figure out what it is.

If youre close, when i go to one of the races there this summer if it hasn't been figured out yet, i will "donate" my truck to this worthy cause :D
