Well the title says it all. i want to know if there is any ways to get both rear tires smoking at the same time. say for instance when you are burning out at the track to heat your tires up? i know there is a diff locker and stuff but anything else better for a daily driver? Troll maybe respond?

do you have all wheel drive? or is it a 4x2? anyways, if it is a 4x4 auto or an awd, you cant... if it has user selectable 4x2 than you can with a traction device in the rear.... however, the only real way to do it, is have a lot of hp and a lot of torque.... an almost stock truck isnt going to do it... the big smokey burnouts are stupid anyways.... rel racver s know that you just need to warm up the drag slicks... if you are on street tires, it isnt doing any good, and just wasting your tires,,,,,

well hp and torque wont be a problem here soon. but the biggest thing is i dont have the lsd or lockers for the differential. i would be running slicks or at least drag radials to do this by the way. i was just asking now that way i can already know what i have to do when i need this in the future.

I used to smoke both my rear tires in my 95 sport ohv stock. I dont do it anymore since i got 20" tires tho

hey slick but do you have the LSD differential? most likely right?

Rocket.. you don't have the LSD? I thought all 5.0s came with the 3.73LS??

i dont think there were certain gears for any motor... anyways, to spin both tires, you need a traction device... an open differential will only allow 1 to spin when breaking loose

nope mine has the 3.55 open diff.

ok next step how much does a switch activated locker cost? anything electronic? or just regular posi? lol. like in the tractors i used to drive? hehe. j/k.

could the same lockers be used for drag that can be used for offroading? or is it being that normally we need higher hp and torque numbers would there be another avenue to persue because of the added strees of the extra power?

same lockers.... or you could do a good lsd.... auburns are almost like a locker... they are good, not a locker, but the best lsd imho......

i dont think there is a electronic or cable actuated locker for the 8.8" other than the ARB, not sure about it's durability in drag racing though.... it will need the air compressor and lines and such, thus adding more weight to an alread 5000 pound truck.....

There are new electric lockers out for the 8.8: Eaton and Detroit. Both are $800-900 and are activated by a simple switch. No air compressor or anything like that; and they function as an LS when switched off.

I have an Eaton LS that was about $300? It's a great unit, and IMO much better and more robust than an Auburn LS. I can spin both rears anytime I want.

You're gonna need a high quality unit to properly deal with all the power you're gonna have, the Eaton will do it; the Auburn might break.

Oh, and this isn't at the track, but the Eaton is great for burnouts :D

hey thanks for the options guys. well whenever i get the money. in the next few years. lol. i plan on doing that. or maybe i could put a 9" rear end with titanium axles and driveshaft with the lockable diff!!!!!! lol. yeah right. i wish. Alec is that some extra paint or lack thereof on your left front panel there? i couldnt really see the detail that well in the picture.

Yeah he went for the home made paint job on his new fenders, and while driving in the rain, he realized that he didn't do as good a job as he though

hehehehe

that sux. i still remember when my mother BACK IN THE DAY painted her POS car with enamel paint from a can and a paint brush. lol. this was back when she was younger than i am now.

Limited Slip or Posi and Line Locks. They Lock the front brakes, flip a switch or turn a knog and pump up the brakes. They slowly release as you do the burnout.

cant use line locks with front ABS... ask me how i know.;)

wow, ive never heard of a V8 X with both no LSD and 3:55's... that's very strange. either way, i vote for the Eaton too. they are considerably stronger than most people think.

we use a 31 spline auburn in troll it has held up to a tone of power and slicks his only problem was breaking studs which we fixed.

a trick that my friend does in his dakota is he puts his left foot on the brake and his right foot on the gas and floors it. then he slowly lets up of the brake and the wheels just spin. ive never tried this in my explorer (i dont really see the point of spinning tires) but id imagine it works.

yeah he gets both the tires to spin only if he has LSD or something alot like it. besides i dont want to get the rears to smoke for no reason it is because later on i will need to have them do it because i will want to run slicks on the dragway.

Yeah i checked my little tag on the back of my drivers side door. I knew i had 3.55 gears but i rechecked and sure enough it has the open differential. i am going to check the rear axle itself and see if it gives the same code too.

BTW, if you're just concerned about burnouts at the strip it's very easy. They purposefully put water down and make the burnout box slick so you don't get too much traction. Still need a good LS or locker though to spin both.

And yes, that was a crappy paint job which I fixed.
