there's this lady at my work who bought an 1994 EB Xplorer, she said when it goes down the road it makes an racket, i drove it and it seems to me the transfercase is activating itself, since when you pull over put it in park push the 4 wheel button a couple of times and then start driving it , it seems to dissaperd, but only temporarly....untill it starts again.

anyone has an idea where the problem might be ?

Sounds like a case of blown autohubs. Are the hubs manual or auto?

That was my guess as well.

well dang! I was reading it and I was gonna say "sound like some blown hubs" then everyone else had said the same thing :)

sorry for the late reply...

but they are as far as i know still the original hubs, so they should be the auto hubs....i think she said an younger guy drove it before she bought it....

uhm , what kinda price-tag would she be looking at to replace the hubs ...just she buys them then i'll put them in ....

Do you think she will ever put it in 4x4 ? If not , then you can just remove the set of female splines in the covers . Thats what I've done while I wait for my Mile Markers to come in . I blew the right one while out wheeling . What happens is - there's a little "C" clip that holds the set of female spline in place and when that wears out it tends to slide over and want to engage . At first you'll hear like a zinging noise then a harsh slaming . The best and cheapest way to fix the problem is to convert to manual hubs . Good luck .

not sure if this is the problem you're describing but i had this exect problem with my 93 xlt and found this article very helpfull -todd
