I bought the FMC remote start kit, and I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna do it myself or not. I'm capable, but it looks like it could be a real pain and flat rate at the dealer is 2 hours. BTW it's on an 03 V8 XLT. Any feedback?

I have installed quite a few after market remote starts and it isn't that difficult. only takes a few hours. I am not sure about the Ford one though, wouldn't figure it would be too much different.

just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it?

I don't have the Ford Kit but my buddy owns an alarm shop and he installed one made by Omega it is called Echo and it works good. He said its a pain because the locks are controlled by data and require a special module and the chip key requires a bypass unit for the remote start. I don't know how the Ford system works or what it comes with. Good luck.

The Ford kit is a Code Alarm product, I paid $180 including the module to work with the Securi-Lock system. I may have someone do it, but once I download the manual I'll make the decision (stupid Ford doesn't give the manual, just the URL to where you can get it. They don't mention that they are secure dealer sites, though. I'll have access to it soon, though only for a short time.)

I have one on my 98. Love it!! If I am correct on this, if Ford installs it for you, parts are guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle, and labor for 1 year. I have used the parts and labor already on mine. Nice..
