I was curious if anyone has ran a 285 with whatever rim size on a 3rd gen? I was thinking about getting 285's with my black 18's. With front coilspring lift maybe it wont rub?

thats different haha cuz bigger rims have a much larger width... yea one of the guys on here got 1.25'' wheel spacers and is getting lifted coils and is running 285s just fine... im sure he'll chime in

I don't undertsand what you're saying. Wouldn't a wider rim/tire on a lowered vehicle be more likely to rub? If you put on narrower rims and lift the vehicle, you're creating mroe room and will be less likely to rub, right? So mine sitting as low as it is would be worse case scenario, and since it doesn't rub, he should be fine.

Actually, it all depends on sidewall height and wheel offset. But hypothetically, if his 18s had the same offset as my wheels, and he was at stock height or higher, he should be able to run as big as a 285/55/18 without rubbing.

well thats what i meant... when i say width, im implying offset... the stock rims have a completely different offset than aftermarket ones... if he goes 285 on stock rims (especially 17s) its gunna be a tight fit... maybe a 285/70/17 would fit with wheel spacers tho

Oh, I see. When he said 18s in the original post I assumed they weren't stock.

ohh fair enough... and i confused my facts too cuz i thought he said 17s... if he runs 18s, the tire will need to be even smaller

yea i was talking about 18's. I called a guy at a tire shop and asked him what his opinion was and he said it should fit with a little rubbing. I figured i could fix that if i wanted to. I think it would look tight though.

if u want a preview of 285s on a 16 inch rim look for jutgin... im pretty sure thats the dudes name who put 285s on his and is awaiting a set of lift springs... he already has wheel spacers too

there might be some rubbing with 285s.

I have 265/50 R20 and they just fit right with no lift.
I think the 285 might rub already.

It all depends on the offset and the sidewall height. As for just width, you could probably run a 305 in the rear and not rub, depending on the sidewall and offset. Maybe even bigger!

What is the offset of the 18s and what size tire is it? 285 only tells us the width.

A 285/55/18 is going to be very close to the overall diameter of the stock wheel/tire combo. If your offset brings them out a little more flush with the fenders, then the wider width will be just fine, even if your truck was lowered.

If you go with a taller tire than that, you may run into problems.

Well I dunno anything about running the big rims but I have the stock 16" rims with 285/75. I had to put spacers on, had a little rubbing but the new over sized springs fixed it. here's a pic:

Sure, some of my favorite things are painting the trim with Krylon fusion, lift springs from coilsprings.com, oversized tires, wheelspacers, painting the rims black, 4x4 stickers, tinted windows, grill guard, roof rack. It just depends on what exactly you want to put on your truck, and if you're like me I had to go little by little so I could pay for it!

yea, i want to do all that, i have a white 02 XLT... when you put the the 285 75 16 tires and there, did it rub alot and does it rub any with the lifted springs now?

Yes it will definitely rub, it's a must to have the lifted springs and wheel spacers. Or after market rims that have a small back spacing so they stick out more. I think the wheel spacers are more important right away though, you could deal with a little rubbing by not having the springs right off the bat. But I dont think they would mount without the spacers.
I think it's worth it though, it rides great and gives a good amount of lift just with the larger tires. Feels beefy. I'd love to see someone else with 285's!!!

I have 285/40/22's on 9.5" rims and nothing rubs - it's just sweet...
