if i start my 92 x up in the morning and back it out of the garage and let it warm up when i come back out of the house i notice every time a small puddle of anti freeze
dripping SLOWLY from the front of the truck..when i look under it ...it seems to me that its coming from the bottom of the radiator....happens most of the time on passenger side...but does occur sometimes on drivers side too.
it won't drip if i were to drive say 10 mins...and shut it off..... only seems to be when the engine is cold

heres the thing... i was told by a few guys on here that its just natural because the hoses get cold and the rubber isn't tight...so the anti freeze leaks out...
MY QUESTION.
anybody eles have this problem with their x??
it would make me feel better if it wasn't just mine...
if it sounds like it might be just mine.. ..does it sound serious??

thanks,
ryan

Mine did, tuned out being the water pump... Dead Link Removed

it first started happening when it got cold here.
so i don't think it could be that.. or i hope not... i just hope its something that just happens not soemthing thats going to cost money.

The pump was only 35$ (NAPA) and took about two hours to replace...Easy.

anyone eles...anyone at all????

everybody wants a free car fax report..but no one knows info about my leak..i see...

oh well
anyone?:banghead:

Have you tried to track down the leak? Hoses just won;t leak cause it's cold....thats false. Thats what clamps are for. Let me know where it's coming from and i may be able to help.

when i looked under the truck..i seen the leak on the passenger side coming from like the bottom corner of the radiator...I hope its not the radiator.
sometimes it leaks from the bottom of both sides.

i'll look again to see what eles i see.

hey man your not the only one here....my 92 ex does the same thing, only when cold, it never overheats, it just drips out until it reaches operating temp, i heard from someone, that the rubber seal that bonds the aluminum to the plastic is faulty, and fairly common, the thing is though i just barley replaced my radiator last year......whats up with that.........rob

Try tightening the hose clamps.

Ive had the leaks on cold mornings, usually after the hoses or radiator have been replaced or worked on. I retightened the clamps and the problems disapear.

Parts that are removed or replaced go through few heating and cooling cycles need to be retorqued. Sometimes the seasons need to change before the low temp of the cycle can be reached, so the leaks start showing in the fall. Just my observation.

well at least i'm not the only one..

yea mine never overheats, it runs perfect..just like it always has

just freaking leaks....i'll check the clamps.

thanks,
ryan

If memory serves, I remember seeing posts about the connection between the overflow tank and the radiator leaking..........

I think this is what some mechanic's refer to as a cold leak, caused by the different rate of expansion between the nylon side tanks and the aluminum core. Results in leaking past the o-ring seal.
My last 3 Ford 4x4's all did this in the cold weather just after start-up. A little rad sealer may help, but not likely.
Just have to live with it or replace the rad.
