Anyone ever taken apart the 5spd manual tranny?

My tranny needs a rebuild, at least the input bearing is shot. I got a quote of $1200 to replace that bearing and a bunch of others. I'll save almost $400 if I take the tranny out myself. So how difficult is it to change those bearings? I've never even seen a tranny apart...but I'm not afraid to try it as long as I can get it back together. Thanks

I'd recomend having a shop do the work. The 5spd isn't the simplest tranny in the world to work on and depending on which bearings are bad it may be necessary to use a press. Save yourself the headache and frustration, let someone else deal with the mess.
