Hello all-
I am in the process of deciding what speakers to go with and saw these: Kenwood KFC-P680C 6"x8" 2-way plate speakers. I really want BA SL80's but can't afford them and see that the Kenwoods are very similar. None of my local shops have them so I can't listen to them.
Any have them or heard them?
An Alping PDX4.100 will push them. I know I know, use the BA's up front and buy the rear when I can afford them.....just trying to save some coin. I can buy all 4 for the same price as 1 set if BA's (well almost). Or I can scale back the amp to like a Sony and then get all BA's. I am not made of money and a tax return will only go so far.

I have some Kenwood coaxials from Best Buy. They sound REALLY good. Only reason they sound good is because they are amped and the doors are FULLY dampened inside and out.

I wouldn't get plate speakers...they will have very weak midbass. A nice coax set will sound much better, get louder, and have more midbass.

If you are getting new speakers with your nice PDX amp...I would highly suggest you sound deaden the whole door. A speaker only sounds as good as its install.

Uh, plate speakers are generally higher end than their coaxial counterparts. I can't comment on the Kenwoods directly, as I haven't heard them, but the Boston's mentioned in teh first post are freaking sweet. You do need a lot of power on them (I had 250 RMS on mine). They're just a component set mounted on an adapter.

a 6x8 has a lot more cone area than the small speaker on a 6x8 plate. It's hard to get more output and midbass than a quality 6x8 coax

Anz- What 6X8's do you run? I did hear the BA SX-85's but in the sound room they didn't sound "full". I do run a JL 8" in a "wedge box" so bass is covered.

I have Kenwood Two ways very similar these...just an older model

They sound awesome. You will get the best sound if you deaden the WHOLE door. Before I deadened the doors and amped these speakers...the sound was shallow and very weak.

After amping them and deadening the whole door...I was blown away from the output and dynamics

I figured the same thing until I found that most companies just don't put the effort into their oval speakers that they put into their round ones. It's a shame, really.

Oh, I also really liked the Directed Neo 6x8's I had.....which apparently are no longer for sale?
Well, maybe. I had these, even from this seller. They were Sweet, especially when paired with the 8" midbasses (3 way fronts in my 06 Stang) with the tweets mounted in the A-pillars.
