Anyone have a spare factory Ford cd player sittin around? The junk yard had one but they were asking 75 bucks, seemed a little steep to me. What do you guys think?

I put a Sony Xplod in mine 2 years ago b/c I got it at a really good price. It has alot of features that I have no use for and more power than my factory speakers need.

I just sold my '95 head unit. There is another '95 unit at the junkyard, if it is still there, I can grab it for ya on Saturday. It would be $40 plus shipping of about $10 or so. $75 isn't way out of line actually...

You might check www.car-part.com

I may take you up on that, I am going to see if my brothers friend still has his factory Ford 5 disc cd player. Maybe he'll just trade me even! LOL

Make sure it plugs in though- the pre-98's have different connectors... We're severely limited with what we can put in there without harness mods and stuff because of the amp situation... I need to find my old threads when I did my swaps.

I think this thread will show you the correct part number... Match yours to mine listed, and if it is the same, you can only use this one I think. I don't know if Ford made a single CD player for the blue-light old plug radios- only the CD changer, but I could never find one...

i have the one out of my 96 ,, might be a good trade for a set of hard to get warrior shackles in canada,, but the shipping would be wildly expensive,,,

If you haven't found one yet, I do have the oem (Audiovox) 6 disc changed (not in dish, separate unit) that I could sell you. It was out of my '97.

Let me know.

The one I have unused on the shelf from my '95 I think says Clarion? Were there different ones?

I thought Ford used JBL? Well, I take that back I never looked on any of my Ford's to see who the tape deck/cd player was made by. I know every Ford I ever owned had factory speakers by JBL.
How I miss that big beast I used to drive! 1988 Lincoln Town Car Cartier series with factory wire wheels and hufe sunroof, six speaker JBL with the factory amp. We called the sunroof the "astro dome." I really miss that big ole' tank! All the other guys my age were swooping around in either lowriders, imports or muscle cars. Not me! I was a fan of the big hoopdies. Man I wonder what kind of gas mileage I used to get?
Quick list of hoopdies I owned in my teens to early 20's:
1984 Ford Crown Victoria (got rear ended, they totaled it)
1980 Olds 88 Sold it for a 94 t bird
1975 Chevy Monte Carlo why, OH why did you sell it!
1988 Lincoln Town Car Cartier series. (All the electronics started messing up, so we lowered it to the ground until the pinion gear snapped.)
1990 Lincoln Town Car thats odd electronics started goin out on it too! Windows, door locks etc.

I have one, worked great when I took it out. PM if intersted.

Sorry to say but you need a pre-98 model. I have a nice one for post 98s that plays MP3s. But it won't work for you :(

Yep- thay changed the plugs. Your only hope for CD's and a factory setup is the factory tape with the CD changer in the console- plus the post '98's have green lights as well.

I have a single CD player for a post '98 that will plug into your truck (I had it in mine) but it would have green lighting. I forgot i had it- but I pulled it out to put in my Pioneer. I paid $100 for it, I'd sell it for $90 shipped, but you can get that deal at your yard. But this is a single CD player. It is the same design (different unit though) as the one listed in my thread link above. If you don't mind green lights, this is the only single CD player that will fit into your truck with the factory plugs.

If you need a changer I have the stock 6 disc out of my truck or I also have a in dash single disc cd player out of a 98 EB.

Like I said before. Mine is from a '97 (pre '98) that you need and its the factory 6 cd changer that goes in the center console. I beleive I have the console insert that goes with it too.

Man it seems like I should just stick with my Sony.
I sure didn't want to rewire everything. It would be nice if I had a place to put a cd changer. My console isn't designed for it and I use that space to hold stuff.

Well, I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Thanks anyways guys!

No problem- basically to simplify since there are a ton of replies in here, these are your options:

1. Get an aftermarket (or your Sony) and a harness to plug in to have CD
2. Get a factory radio/tape and a CD-6 changer for the armerst, you will have about 1/4 of your console left for storage, blue lights on radio, it will match your dash.
3. Get a single CD player from the '98 Ranger/Explorer, will plug in directly, but will have green dash lights.
4. Buy any Ford radio, and a harness to convert the pre-98 plugs to post-98 plugs for about $100 (just the harness itself is $100) and use any double DIN Ford radio in your truck.

Those are your choices in a nutshell, Walnut. :D

Get an aftermarket unit and be done with it..

That's what I have in there now an aftermarket Sony Xplod w/ flip down detachable face and remote. Plays mp3's, Satellite ready and all. I just like the simpler factory look and controls, I have no use for all that stuff. Guess I'll just stick with it.

So why downgrade then? Yeah stick with the aftermarket one...it's better in every dept than the POS Ford unit.
