does anyone here use any focals? I am buying one of their 10" utopia subs to use in my stealthbox. I hear it awesome sounding equipment. I was going to go all MBquart but I'm getting a deal on this $700 new sub, so I am going to go with their highs too. Does anyone have these components in kickpanels? If so which line is it. I hear this stuff is leading IASCA right now, supposeably it blows MBquart away? Any opinions would be useful. I am not that serious of an audophile but I like to listen to good stuff. I spend more time in my truck than at home.

focals good stuff.. the Utopia is like the ferrari of audio hehe if I could afford it.. i would certainly run them.. I'd run those above MBQ.. MBQ is good stuff as well. but the tweeters are very bright.. and my ears are too sensetive on high tones for some reason for those.. I just about go deaf in my friends cars when they have their stuff goin..

sounds like you got a good setup yer workin on.. btw, the kickpanels would be the best place for your soundstage for placement.. however.. you could use your stock door location for the tweeter and mid, or mount the tweeter up higher on the door like around the mirror control.. thingy heh

good luck, I think you'll be happy with these brands no matter where you put em :)

yeh but how good will any speaker sound in the door. right now I have a little bit older jbl coaxs running off an amp and they sound really clean but one side is covered by my leg and the other by the passenger. I was thinking of putting some sort of midbass in the door. I would first do the kickpanels and then add the midbass. But has anyone fit a 6.5 in the door? I havent seen it on her yet but anything is possible. but I dont like the idea of leaving the coaxs in, and my deck is preouts only so I would have to add more power. maybe if I did a set of three-way components, and just put 4" in the kickpanels. more and more ideas!!!

I have a set of Focal 165K seperates in my 92. This is their Polykevlar series with a 6.5 inch midbass and a 1 inch tweeter. The 6.5s went into the stock locations in the door without a problem. I just made my own adapter plates out of MDF. I was told that the Utopias may be too deep to fit in the stock location, but I don't know for sure. If you look inside the door, the window rail is right behind the speaker, which kind of limits you in terms of depth. The tweeters were flushed mounted into the dash and are attenuated at -2 dB. This was the best location we found and the imaging and soundstage is incredible.

I don't know if the Utopia sub you have will fit in the Stealthbox. My a/d/s/ sub didn't and I had to have a custom box constructed for it.

Definitely go listen to their components. They literally blew everything else I heard away (Diamond, MBQ, Boston, etc). If you have ever heard B&W home speakers, Focals sound a lot like them.

peace

Mike

Focal is absolutely amazing

I have the Utopias in my X right now. When I went to this stereo store in Austin, TX, I listened to a Sade CD from the Q Series MB Quarts, some good Bostons, the high dollar Eclipse 1201 Line series, and the Utpoias. The Qs sounded pretty good, but with the Utopias, you could hear when the singer breathes in, and you could hear the absence of sounds as a piano key or guitar note fades. It's really tough to describe exactly how detailed they are, but they are worth every penny.
The tweeter is sauldered to the wire for the crossovers, so be prepared to mount crossovers with 2 1/2 feet of the tweeters. Also, be prepared to build a small mounting plate for the Utopias if you mount them in the doors. But I will say, I've heard them in the kicks and they sound extremely better.
I have a JL 10W6 in my stealthbox and it's a great speaker. Not sure if the Focal 10" will fit. Those Focal subs are a pretty penny. See if the guy will let you drop it in for a test fit. Also, I think the Focal subs need more room than the stealthbox has. check into that as well.
Good luck.
