What hapopens if the fluid level on the Tranny in an XLT 4X4 is too FULL????

How often should I change my tranny filter?
OR
Do a power-flush?

I believe that my transmission is too full, I have checked it warm ideling in P. I am just curious of the consequences of having it too full. The owners manuel says only have a tech remove the excess in the caseof an overfill.

I am also curious how to go about changing the filter and if I can do this without draining the tranny.

If anyone knows a little or a lot about these Auto Trannys I would greatly appreciate any help!!!:p

Someone told me that overfilling the tranny and driving 60mph + for a while will cause it to foam up and seize, and you won't have your tranny anymore. I think thats if its full to the brim though.

I hope not. I dont think that it ever looked foamy though.

Maybe if it was a completely sealed transmission which our Explorers don't have. There is a vent tube coming out of the transmission for cases when the fluid pressure builds up too much (such as when over-filling or over-heating it). If you have too much fluid in your transmission and heat it up enough, it will run out the tube leaving a puddle of transmission fluid under your vehicle.

Fischer - You can't remove the filter without removing the pan. To remove the pan you will loose 4-5 quarts from the transmission. There will still be 7-8 quarts left in the torque converter.
