16 Explorer Sport BOB
hello. i'm new to this forum and i have been following this forum for a couple of days and thank you for all the info. i just placed an order for 16 ex sport and i cant wait to get my hands on it. I was hoping someone could shine some light on the gas mileage or the ride quality of the 16 ex sport in NYC or similar cities with horrible roads. I currently drive a 2013 bmw x3 x28i ( 4 cyl)which is also turbo charged and the gas mileage i was getting in NYC was 14mpg. i'm guessing the the explorer sport which is 900 lbs heavier and a 6 cylinder would get even less..?

To be straight forward with you...no one is buying a Sport for the fuel economy!
It will literally be double the fuel consumption as compared to your X3.

With only an 18gal fuel tank, you will be visiting the gas station fast. Lol

I'm in NNJ I got my Ex sport for two weeks 800 miles my average its 18.5 mpg the full tank range it's about 320 miles +- I'm very happy with the ride

Nice!! I hope they are all city miles. Do you do a lot of stop and go's?

On another topic the remote start its The best

I just got my 16 explorer sport. The first fill up of 13 gallons was at 150 miles and I was averaging about 10 miles per gallon.

that sounds about right. u could probably get even more if it wasnt for the remote starter.

I just got a Bronze Fire Sport. Love it, but def not getting much better gas mileage then my 2013 F150. I'm spending pretty much the same amount of $$$. Only perk with the F150 was less Gas station visits. The F150 was a 3.5 Ecoboost also. Was getting like 10 mpg, now i get like 11mpg with the explorer.

do they offer a tune with a better mpg option. would be nice to have the performance tune, tow tune and mpg tune.

That would be my next question after getting my 16 XP Sport. I read several reviews were they said that you can get at least 400HP and more torque out of this engine. I don't think I will go with changing exhaust system, but maybe there is a race chip or some other plug and play performance chip out there. Just for fun, I am also a member of Lexus, BMW, Audi forums just to read about different things. One thing they all noted was that changing exhaust will have minimal to non increases in actual HP. It will only make it sound better. On the other hand, a race chip increases throttle response and throttle mapping and is guaranteed to increase HP / Torque by 20-40.
I am not sure if there is a chip out there to save MPG. To save MPG you need to go with FWD and a smaller engine. Like some people here posted, don't go on that pedal too harsh or you will be in the 10-12 MPG range. I also in NY, so with all the stop and go traffic it will be difficult to increase MPG.

Anyone interested in 'tunes' should read the threads in the 'Modified' sub forum
