Anyone mount tweeters?

Or aluminum. I put 100w 4" pioneers in the front doors and a set of tweets just above where awdrocks did and then put 220w 5x7 pioneers in the rear doors. I think the 5x7's sound WAY better than the 4" up front and plan to change them soon.

Man, kudos, you really look out for your passengers in that X. I def would like to have components in the back, and prob will in the future, but I can just hear that cash register chinging away, so for now the passengers get screwed. By the way, I called the local car audio guys, they all say that they don't know of any rings for a 5x7 to 6.5. All the ones I spoke to just make their own either out of gluon, mdf, or one said abs plastic.

hmmm... let me find out which ones I got... im going to have to do a little digging... I actually bought them in a shop when I lived in Cozumel Mexico...

I second this, I would love to know where I could get some adapter plates for 6.5" speakers in my 2004 ex. Right now I have a Panasonic CQ9700U head unit connected to my stock speakers. It sounds better than stock but I'm sure some better speakers would be an improvement.
I have been told in the past that components require an amp, but with coaxials you can get by with just head unit power. Is there any truth to this? I can't see any reason why a component set would need more power, after all the coax has the tweet in it too. My HU puts out 60W max and I really don't want to hassle with an amp since I don't go around blasting my music.

ok I better really get to work now.... I live in Cancun now and Cozumel is quite far... Im digging for his number or ill see if a friend can stop by that shop and ask.

Maybe its me who has it wrong. Maybe they are not rings... but he did have some speaker bases that came out of a new plastic bag that fit right in. Does this shed any light?

No truth in that, you don't have to have an amp for a component set. It will sound good without an amp, but even better with.

Living in Cancun. Man thats crazy. How the heck do you even get anything accomplished living there. I'd be too busy gettin half crocked and picking up young hottie tourists. Anywho, I'm not sure what you might be referring to with the rings. By all means let me know if you find anything out.

awdrocks, you totally sure they are 6.5" speakers and not 5.25" ?

Yes they are 6.5's. Look heres a pic of the ones I took out. Front components and rear co's. I think im just going to take my door panel out and see what the heck I have.... ill try and do it Sunday.... HEY THIS IS REALLY WEIRD... someone shed some light.... I just decided to grab a ruler and measure the speakers... from rim to rim they measure 6''... from end of outside foam to foam of the actual speaker they measure 5.25''.... and look at my original package... it says 6.5''!!! WHATS UP WITH THAT? I bought these at Circuit City.

The back of the box says outside diameter 7.39''... and they are actually 6''. I do have 5.25''.... Looks like I got 5.25'' packaged in some 6.5'' boxes. Thats to wierd... Im looking for my receipt to see what I was billed for.... to weird... sorry for the confusion guys... now im wondering if they pulled a fast one on me... billed me for 6.5'' and gave me 5.25''.

Well considering that the stock speakers from Ford are 5x7 I would be really surprised if you could actually fit 6.5 speakers in the door without cutting.

They fit, just have to make a spacer, it's certainly not 6.5 inches wide all the way to the back of the speaker. The only hang up I've noticed is the depth of the 6.5s I have, its only 2.5 inches to the window track and my depth is 2.75. guess I know how thick the ring needs to be... They told me 60 dollars to install the component set, Im thinking I might let the ole audio pros handle this one. Oh, and after tracing the pattern for the ring I would need, problem 2 is it's dangerously close to one of the clips on the door panel. Might cost me 60 bucks, but I would pay more to hear the cursing from the guy installing it in the back room...

6.5's fit just fine. My Kappas are actually 6 3/4 CS. Purchased a 5 ×7 to 6 1/2 adapter and there are no issues at all with fit. Currently deciding on a position for the tweeter.
