Has anyone ever painted the plastic bumpers on their '99-00 Explorer to match the body color? Any suggestions? Thanx!

I painted mine on my 99, but I didn't match them to the car. I also painted the running boards and fender flares. I actually painted the front bumper twice. The first time I just sprayed it. The second time I actually filled and sanded it smooth before painting it, just like the EB and Limited. It turned out great. There are some pics on the website below.

Hey David, nice explorer. I'm more into lowriders now than lifted trucks, but I like yours. I am wanting to paint the flares and bumpers on mine too.

how easy was it to install the bushwackers how much were you get them and what you have to do to paint them

The fender flares were not designed for a 99, but I made them work. They were for a 95-98. The only difference was on the back bumper, I had to notch the flares a little since the trim on the bumper is taller. After that, they fit pretty good, just a little filing here and there. As far as painting them, that was easy. Just sanded, primed, and painted. Let sit in my den for 3 days to dry and then put them on. I returned my JET performance chip and got the flares. So they were about $225. I got them from a local shop here in Washington. They took about a week or so to get.

David, Your Explorer looks great! The bumpers on these trucks look really nice when they are clearcoated. My measly XL came with the ugly grey plastic bumpers but I am about to fix that! I have my brother's air compressor and spray gun. I need to get the primer and paint. I am thinking about going to the dealer to get the specs on the paint or maybe even buying it there, we'll see. Where did you get your paint?

Well my paint was bought at the auto parts store. Believe it or not, it is just out of a spray can. The clear coat is too. Everyone that sees it doesn't believe me. As long as you take your time it comes out looking great.

Hey david, I was wondering if you could give tell me the exact procedure of what you did. Or if anyone else could give me some pointers to doing the painting. I know I spoke to you before, and I want to paint mine the body color which is the red, code # E4. I know I can get the paint and have it put into spray cans. Or is it possible to rent a sprayer? I have a heavy duty compressor we use for our presses here at work? I dont know much about painting. So any detailed descriptions of what I should do would be appreciated. I would really like to do it myself, just for the experience, and for cost. Its a good feeling knowing you do the mods yourself right? thats the point of it. Its no fun is omeone else does all of them for you. But anyway, if anyone can give me some suggestions, that would be great.
THanks,
Jason
