Wanted Anyone selling a gently used 4x4 module

I belive my module is bad and I am looking for a replacement. Live in the south and not alot of 4x4 models around here. 2002 Explorer 4.0L

Welcome aboard Bob!!

Bob, you need to make sure that the module is compatible with your Ex. It's not a one size fits all scenario. The part numbers have changed over the years as well. The module for my Ex may not be the correct module for your Ex.

What symptoms do you have?

Thanks for the response. I will check the part number and add it to the post.

Right now it does nothing if I push the button on the panel I get no lights. As far as I can tell there is no function of the 4 wheel drive and no response back on the I.P. I do not get the "clicks" when I press the 4wd buttons.

Have you tried putting all 4 corners up on jackstands to see if the front wheels turn at all when in AUTO 4wd mode? You should get some rotation in that situation since they get 5% power at a minimum when in that mode.

I have the same issue, they're so hard to come by without costing an arm and a leg.

Will suspending the wheels tell me if the module is working or not? I do not get the tell tale clicks and from what I have read that is the sign if it is working.

Well it would be a way of at least narrowing down the problem by visually seeing if you have front drivetrain engagement. For example, maybe auto works but not 4 hi.

Bob, is there any flashing of the 4x4 indicator lights on the dash?

When I was having issues with my 4x4, I changed the module & the switch with no results. It turned out to be a bad ground wire on the transfer case shift motor. Might be worth a shot to crawl under and check it out.

Thanks for the tip. I will check it this weekend when I jack it up to see if the wheels spin.

I get nothing out of the 4wd lights. I press the button and nothing, no lights no clicks from the module nada. I swapped the switch with a friends that was working and still nothing.

I live in the south and rarely use it. I had the trans rebuilt a year ago and I know it was working before then. I do not know if they did something or not. Now the warranty is gone and I have no 4wd.

I would check all connections/connectors too!!
