They actually work to a point, been around for 75 yrs at least
 






hmmm....running on 5 cyl for a few, I would think that would be some really hot and gassey air.........
 






not sure if I would want to do that more than once.. Might be good for emegencies but if you are going to do that on a permanent basis I would go with some type of either electric or even engine driven compressors.

Soon I plan on ditching the electric compressors on my ranger for a engine driven one. Getting tired of the stupid things not giving me enough pressure.. I want to constantly be at 180 psi.. Not take 10 minutes to get to 180 psi.. Plus if needed with that engine driven one I should be able to run air tools off of it..
 






It seems to me that the gas/air mixture might be dangerous or somehow harmful, like if you ran pnuematic tools with. But gee, I don't know. Seems logical that it would work fine otherwise.
 






Done it years ago and it's very very very slow !! It does work though and would work fine if it was an emergency and your not in a hurry.
 






It would definatly stink.

I'll agree with that one. I changed the plugs once and Don't plan on removing them for at least 40-50k miles.
 






How about if you rerouted the intake port somehow and kept the adapter attached all the time? I guess it would be real hard to plug and reroute the intake for that cylinder but wouldnt it work?
 






The intake would be sucking, not blowing. :)

No lol, im thinkin you could block off the intake for that cylender and reroute the intake past the blockage to somewhere else so the cylender wouldnt suck in gassy air and push out gassy air. Then you leave your spark plug adapter attached in the spark plug hole all the time and maybe hook up a tank with a bleeder.....A really quiet bleeder

Maybe you could take the push rod out for the exhaust port of that cylender
 






dont forget to unplug the injector if you do this, don't wanna blow yourself up filling a tire
 






Some of the tire truck dudes that change out semi tires or farm tires have a motor dedicated to pumping air that powers their trucks. The ones I have seen are a re-wired Ford 302 with one bank running as a 4 cyl. engine, and the other bank running as a 4 cyl. air compressor. They made LOTS of air (enough to blow beads on tractor tires), but of course that wasn't the primary engine for the truck. The extra one is mounted in the rear, under the sheetmetal box.
